Consilium Technology Acquires Green Brain and Measurement Engineering Australia to Unite the AgTech Industry

Consilium Technology, a high-powered Australian AI company, is pleased to announce that it has acquired Green Brain and Measurement Engineering Australia Pty Ltd.

Consilium Technology’s recent acquisition of Green Brain and MEA is laying the foundation to establish a high-value, integrated offering for farmers and growers. MEA was founded in 1984, with initial roots in electronics engineering for the renewable energy sector. The company has evolved over the years, and now designs and builds hardware and software products to support farm monitoring and irrigation scheduling decisions.

MEA’s flagship product, Green Brain, is a user-friendly software platform that brings the IoT data into one place to help growers reduce their water costs and improve their crop. Green Brain is a trusted product in Australian agriculture, with significant traction in Australia’s horticulture market.

MEA’s Founder and retiring Engineering Director, Dr Andrew Skinner, has played a vital role in the company’s success over the past 36 years.

“Since founding MEA, the company has built thousands of systems for carrying out field measurements in many sectors across Australia. Consilium Technology’s strategic acquisition of MEA will boost Green Brain’s ability to better serve time-poor farmers and customers to make rapid decisions based on up-to-date data, no matter where they might be. I’m delighted to be ending a 45-year engineering career on such a high note”, said Dr Skinner.

MEA’s retiring Managing Director, Joe Hoogland, reflected on what the team had achieved to date, acknowledging all who had contributed to the company’s success.

“Nearly 30 years ago I joined Andrew with a plan to build MEA. Over that time, we have engaged with the agriculture sector to monitor and measure. We’ve had excellent support from both Federal and State governments in developing new technologies. I’m delighted that Green Brain’s future is in the hands of another South Australian company with the prospect of delivering even better solutions. I would like to express my thanks to current and past staff who have all contributed to MEA’s success.” Hoogland said.

MEA’s General Manager, Dominic Skinner, will remain with the company and is excited for what the future holds.

“The two companies bring together highly complementary skills at an exciting time for AgTech providers in Australia. Consilium Technology’s capacity with machine learning and analytics opens some very exciting possibilities for the next phase of Green Brain development. I look forward to working with the team to realise some of these opportunities”, said Skinner.

Consilium Technology has world-class AI capabilities that will leverage Green Brain’s dataset, which has been collecting in-field data for more than 5 years, to bring more value to new and existing customers alike. The leading AI company also founded GAIA in 2018 a revolutionary web application which monitors crop health, provides intelligent analytics and delivers geolocation crop maps at continent-scale.

Consilium Technology sees significant synergies with integrating the capabilities of these products.  Consilium Technology’s Founder and CEO, Seth Thuraisingham, envisions new opportunities to significantly impact and add value to the agriculture sector.

“Moving forward, Consilium Technology will bring together the community of AgTech brands GAIA, MEA and Green Brain. This will allow the customer to approach one brand Green Brain. Green Brain will deliver a holistic above and in-ground view to agriculture. It will combine earth observation capabilities from GAIA with Green Brain’s inground soil moisture and microclimate information, positioning us to be able to deliver even more powerful insights for our customers”, Thuraisingham said.

Green Brain will offer a one-stop shop for the grower, providing the integration of sensors, intelligent analytics and IoT data in one place. Consilium Technology is committed to ensuring that current and future customers continue to receive the highest quality hardware and software products and services. Consilium Technology is excited by the new possibilities, including a connected AgTech ecosystem, that the recent MEA and Green Brain acquisition will unlock for the agricultural sector and Australia’s economy.
